FILLING IN DESCRIPTORS FOR ESA was created by shrinathji
Hi,

I have found that I am really repeating myself in probably every section when filling out the form for my friend.

Eg, I have stated by saying that due to my ????? illnesses (listed them) that are relevant to descriptor and went onto saying why for example I cannot mobilise due to ????? illness.

However, upon checking I just seem to be repeating myself, am I doing anything wrong or is this ok???

Really don't want to mess up friends chances of S/G.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Radhika.

Hi R,

It may well be the case that you do have to repeat yourself with respect to different questions.

That is the nature of the ESA50.

The best way to look at this, is to look at each question in a standalone capacity. If the medical conditions and resulting limitations are pertinent to that question/activity, then state that this is so, even if the same information may be relevant to other questions/activities, and you have cited the same with those.

Many Thanks, will carry on in this way to complete form.

Also, how much info should I go with, less is more or more is good?????

However, is it worth mentioning the side effects of the medication when filling out these questions as I have already listed these elsewhere in detail on the form.

Thanks
Radhika.

Hi R,

Quality and relevance of information is more important than quantity, so basically provide as much as you deem enough.

Again, you may have to repeat information, although where applicable you could cross reference.

Thanks,

Can I cross reference with medical reports that we will be submitting.

For example, for the standing and sitting, specialists report clearly states that Mrs? found it extremely difficult to stand up from a sitting posture unassisted by a crutch.

I believe this is a S/G descriptor, so in order to qualify would my friend need the physical assistance of a person as she certainly could not do this without the use of a crutch/walking stick and at other times she needs physical help for reasons I will explain on form.

Thanks.

Hi R,

Yes it is fine to cross reference to medical evidence, this is why it helps to number added pages, and even create an index.

"Standing and sitting", is activity 2,. of The WRAG descriptors. To also gain access to the SG, you would have to prove that :

"2(a) Cannot move between one seated position and another seated position which are located next to one another without receiving physical assistance from another person."

WRAG (LCW)Schedule 2 Descriptors

This gives the maximum 15 points for WRAG entry, but more importantly, it also corresponds to Activity 2. of The SG descriptors:

"Transferring from one seated position to another.

Cannot move between one seated position and another seated position located next to one another without receiving physical assistance from another person."

www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2013/379/schedule/3/made

All this is covered in our : ESA Claims Guides .
