iS, DLA and money in bank was created by Motherbored21
Hi! Will try and keep this short! Our family consists of 1 disabled child, 1disabled adult and 1carer. We have a mortgage and a home, but need to move as our present home is no longer suitable for our child and we cannot extend the property to suit him.
We live off-shore and will be moving to England. Obviously, we will have a deposit for a home, but will need to rent somewhere (nightmare!), whilst we buy. Will the DWP count this money as savings? We want to put every penny into either the right house for our child, or be able to buy and use some of the money to adapt for his long term needs.
We would be looking to buy as soon as humanly possible, as renting will be a financial and logistical nightmare!
Any advice will be appreciated!
Thanks.

I am not entirely sure what you mean by "off shore", but on the assumption that mean some place outside of the UK, then I would advise you to get face to face advice before proceeding, there may be issues of residency and entitlement to benefits, also I cannot guarantee how the DWP will view any monies left over from the sale of your current house.

If I have misunderstood "off shore", please come back to the forum.

Off-shore as in crown dependency, part of British Isles. No problems on residency, as son and I born in UK.
Husband will be looking for work in England, as will I. Where we live at present has no disability discrimination act (#dark ages)

I have done a number of searches and cannot find any advice that specifically relates to your situation, so my recommendation that you see a trained advisor about this stands.

On the basis of what you have posted their appears to be no issue of Right to Residency, however, we are aware of other issues when moving from outside of the UK mainland to the mainland, for example, Contribution histories may not be transferred, affecting which benefits can be claimed, which will have an indirect impact on how any savings might be viewed.

I am sorry that we cannot be more specific, but this is as much an area of the law as it is one of benefits and we are not qualified to give you the detailed answer you are looking for.
