ESA: possible to be taken off benefit without med?

Ten weeks ago i sent off completed esa50 form to atos and i am still waiting to hear.
I realise that this kind of delay is to be expected, particularly as in my case they did ask for form 113 from doctor.
It was not filled in by regular doc as she left surgery just before i recieved form - i didn't know that she would be retiring then. The doc that filled it in did a very cursory job on it, confirming basic diagnosis but offering little detail about severity of condition.
What i would like to know is if at this stage i could still be called in for an ATOS medical.
If not, is it possible that i could be taken off ESA completely without being called in for a medical?
Or is the worst possible outcome just that i could be taken out of support group?
Any thoughts would be appreciated

ps i know i should call DWP but have this fear that amounts to `letting sleeping dogs lie.'

Hi d,
The options are the same as with your previous assessment.
You could be kept in The SG or placed into The WRAG on a paper assessment alone, without the need for a face to face assessment (F2F).
You could also be placed into either group after having a F2F.
However, you most definitely cannot be found fit for work unless you have first had a F2F Assessment.

You can not be found Fit for Work under normal circumstances, without being requested to attend an ATOS assessment, but they can move you from the Support Group to the WRAG.
Your claim is most likely still with ATOS so you could give them a call, there are three possible results; (1) they are still looking at your file, (2) an assessment is required and an appointment is in the post, and (3) your file has been returned to the DWP with a recommendation.
ATOS can be contacted on
Phone: 0800 2888 777 or 0113 230 9175
Email: customer-relations @ atoshealthcare.com (remove the space around the @)
