Means tested ESA was created by robdean
Whilst I await a date for my ESA tribunal the CAB told me I should apply for means tested ESA. My partner and I have about £12K in the bank which I had earmarked for emergency medical bills. With this amount of personal money will I get near the £100 a week I used to get from contribution based ESA?

Hi
You are allowed £6k in saving with IR ESA, any amount over that will be deducted from your ESA, for every £250 over the £6,000 limit you will lose a £1.00 a week. In English that means you will be deducted £24.00 a week from your ESA.
I don't know how much your ESA is now but whatever it is minus the £24.00 a week and that should give you an idea. As your savings decrease though obviously the amount of ESA you receive will go up. But the DWP will want you to send them regular bank statements. Hope that helps.

Hi rd,
It would not be possible to give a definitive answer without having access to all your personal details.
This is obviously not practical on an open forum.
The maximum amount of capital, assets and savings allowed for IR ESA is £16,000, if you have over that amount, then you would not be entitled to any IR ESA.
You are allowed up to £6,000 without it having any effect on IR ESA at all.
You would have to fill in an ESA 3 Form to be financially assessed, here is a : Sample ESA 3 Form
You would need to obtain one of these from The DWP Benefits Office, or maybe your local CAB.
Your capital, assets, savings, household income, and any hours worked by your partner will be taken into account, see :
24 hour work rule for ESA(IR)
Asset rule for ESA(IR)
This : Benefits Calculator may give you some idea how much IR ESA you would be entitled to.
Or you could obtain face to face advice :
Where to get advice?
