Question about GP visit was created by Benson
Hello, just wondered if anyone can tell me a bit about GPs and their links to ESA. I saw a new GP recently as my old one retired, this visit was about an issue totally unrelated to my long term health problems. For some reason he asked me various questions about work, who I lived with, and such like. Not sure why it was relevant to ask when I was there about a sweat rash. One of the questions was why I am not working, I said due to being sick long term, he asked why. Because I was on the spot, and part of my health issue is confusion and anxiety, I paused and then said 2 things that were so minor compared to a lot of my problems. I was kicking myself after, but because I was on the spot and not expecting it I got confused and couldn't think. My health issues consist of around 10 different aspects, I really wish I had just one that I could say that is an umbrella term. But when I mention just two out of the 10 I have it sounds so feeble.

I haven't needed to visit a GP in a while as my problems stem from over a decade ago, and in the first 5 years I had endless scans and specialist visits. So in the previous 5 years I have not needed to visit the GP much as I went through it all. Although I do visit for when other issues crop up that are easily solved, such as infections and the like. So if he looks at my recent previous history on the computer he won't see much. I have my usual ATOS checkups of course.

I am now concerned he might think I am not worthy of the ESA. Do GP's liaise with DWP over patient visits, or just when sent a form from the DWP ? Also do GP's write personal related information on the computer under my data (such as their own views), or is it just health related ?

I really wish I was more assert and had explained my long term health issues, but I was there for another reason and not expecting questions on it so my mind was focused purely on why I was there, by the time I had got my brain together I couldn't go back to that subject as it would have seemed odd.

So simply I guess I am concerned he may contact the DWP to say he doesn't think I am worthy, but I am probably only thinking this due to the fact I suffer paranoia and severe anxiety. Thanks for any help.

Your GP should not be talking to the DWP except if they are requested to do so by the DWP and only then with your authority, so I would not worry about this.

If you are concerned over the view that your GP has of you then go and see them again to explain your health problems in more detail, you can write yourself a prompt list or just prepare a letter for them that explains everything including your tendency towards confusion.
