How Much Should I Be Getting in ESA Support Group?

Hi

I have been migrated from IB and am in ESA SG. I was getting £99 on IB and now getting £107. This comprises £71.70 (living expenses) + £34.80 (Support group Component) + 0.85 pence top up (which I’m assuming is income based). However my sister who was migrated from Income Support and is in ESA SG is getting £119 approx. I have been advised that I should be getting the same.
While on IB I've also had to pay for shortfall in housing benefit and a small amount towards Council Tax. Plus anything else which you don't automatically get on IB.

I assume I'm now on Contributions ESA but if it falls below Income-Related, should it automatically be topped up?

Many thanks.

Hi Asbo,

You might find this helpful

What will I be paid?

If you were on IB then you will have been transferred to contributary ESA. If you did not get an IS top-up then you won't automatically get an income-related top-up either, although you can apply for this is you think you are eligible for it (ask for an ESA3).

Everyone migrated to ESA from IB will be protected under the 'transitional arrangements' which mean that you will not get any less under ESA then you did under IB. You would not get any rise in ESA until it has caught up with your IB payments though.

Does this answer your question?

Thanks Mrs HB

I think so. I think I should have applied for Income-Related Top-Up under IB but the amount was so small I've never bothered but it seems to have widened. £!2 a week is a lot.

Where do I get form ESA3 - I have a phobia about ringing the Job Centre. I could write to them though if that's where I get one.

Many thanks.

I think it far more likely that the 85p is a Transitional Payment and that you are only receiving ESA(CB).

It sounds like your sister is receiving either ESA(IR) in full or at the very least as a top-up and as a result is also receiving the Enhanced Disability Premium, which would give around £119 a week.

Unfortunately, we can not give detailed financial advice on the forum so you need to get face to face advice as to whether it is in your interests to request a an ESA(IR) top-up to your ESA(CB), whether you are eligible will depend on your personal circumstances as the DWP will look at your income, assets and savings, and any hours that a partner works.

Hi A,

It sounds like your sister was getting (Pre April 2013 uprating) :

£71 Personal Allowance

£34.05 Support Group Component

£14.80 Enhanced Disability Premium

£119.85 in Total.

To get the Enhanced Disability Premium, one would have to be entitled to IR ESA as well as CB ESA.

Post April 2013 rates are :

£71.70 Personal Allowance

£34.80 Support Group Component.

£15.15 Enhanced Disability Premium.

£121.65 Total.

2013 Benefits Rates

MHB's comments are still pertinent. Although you cannot receive less under Transitional Protection, whether you would receive more would depend on your own personal circumstances.

Hi Bro and all

Yes, it looks as if she's getting the first row of figures you outlined. We live together. I have no assets and none of us work so looks as if I would be entitled although going through all that effort and stress feels more than I can manage atm. To be honest, I'm just relieved to be in the Support Group.

Many thanks
