IB to ESA with no medical

Thank you so much for your help. My son suffers from schizophrenia for the last 20 years. I am his mother and main carer and look after him and see to his daily needs. There is no way that he could have filled the ESA50 form so, as I am his appointed person they contacted me when he had to fill in this awful form. I needed all of the 4 weeks to fill it in, it was really bad having to write down exactly what his day consisted of (very little) and what exactly he could do, mostly what he couldn't do. There were many times when I was filling in the form that I was in tears and became very angry at the whole system where someone so mentally ill could be expected to answer questions that related to his mental illness when he has no insight into his illness and is unable to cope with any social situation. After looking after him so long I have tended to ignore the fact that he has no life, so to have to put it down on paper was extremely hard and involved a lot of extra pages.
The last 2 weeks have been very worrying waiting to hear from ATOS, but today they rang me and said that my son has been put straight into the Support Group with no medical for the longest time they can which she said was 3 years and then it will be reviewed again. Oh joy!!
I rang my sister to tell her and she asked whether the Support Group would mean he would get extra help and support which from the title would seem to mean that, but I don't think so. Anyway, enough of my rant, thank you again for your help, without your guide I would not have been able to fill that form out.

Well done on on gaining The SG award for your son, and thank you for your positive comments regarding B&W.

3 years is the longest prognosis for an ESA award.

Being in The SG means that your son cannot be compelled to take part in WFI's or WRA. He can do so voluntarily.

Hopefully, he can now concentrate on dealing with his medical conditions, in peace, for a prolonged period.

If he has been transferred over from IB, IS or SDA, he should receive no less than he was receiving before, under Transitional Protection, although he could receive more :
