Cannot turn the pages of a book was created by The Thing
Hi a friend of mine as Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome and Vibration Induced Peripheral Neuropathy in both hands.

These were diagnosed at a DWP medical for Industrial Disablement Allowance.

He informs me that he cannot turn the pages of a book without licking his finger tips first because of loss sensention in finger tips.

Does that mean he cannot do this activity reliably and repeatably or will the Atos interprit that differently at an ESA medical.

He currently is in receipt on Inc/Ben and awaits to be transfered to ESA.

Also should he be put into the support group.

Hi headinawheelchair

If a claimant can achieve a WCA activity by licking his fingers first, I think in all probabilities he will not score points. Nevertheless, I would still put forward the difficulty faced.

I certainly could not say if he should be put in the support group. It's not possible to apply the WCA to somebody through a forum, and in any case, it would only be opinion.

Regards

Hi,

My opinion on this would be, if he can manage to turn the pages only at the cost of pain for instance he could be classed as not being able to.

But, if he can sucessfully turn a page by first liking his fingers to do and not cause himself actual pain in doing this, then he would be classed as being able to turn the page.
