ESA and Premiums was created by avalon
Hi,

Does anyone know what happens if a person has been on Income Support in lieu of Incapacity Benefit and is then migrated to the Income Based ESA Support Group in terms of money? Do they actually lose any money because my understanding is that disability premiums are only paid with ESA if a person is getting Contributions Based ESA?

Many thanks for any answers. :)

Fiona

Premiums are the same whether you're getting ESA(CB) or ESA(IR).

I thought I read in the website ESA handbook that if you get put into ESA(IR)Support Group, you get Main Phase base amount plus Support Component (just like in ESA(CB)) but also Enhanced Disability Premium automatically, which you DON'T get in ESA(CB).

Or am I getting confused? Errm....

It's probably me that's confused. I'll check it and get back to you. (Unless one of my fellow mods comes along and clarifies it sooner.)

Yes, your observations are quite correct.

If you are placed in the ESA support group, you will receive the basic amount plus a support component amounting to £31.40 a week. The enhanced disability premium may also be payable with income-based ESA.
