Incapacity Benefit Medical was created by stevep
Hello there,
I have been on IB and DLA since 2004 due to depression and anxiety.
I had recently filled in the 1b50 form and just recieved a letter informing me that i have to ring up and make an appointment for a medical with atos which i did and one was made for next week at sunderland.

I haven't been for a medical since 2004 and am getting myself into a state about going :( , is there any advice and tips you could offer on what to expect.

Do i need to inform my gp and would it be advisable to take along my meds?

kind regards steve

Recommended reading prior to an IB medical assessment is the guide entitled "60 questions you’re likely to be asked at your incapacity medical" which can be accessed in the incapacity resources section HERE. Just scroll down to the guide.

Your GP may or may not be aware of your impending PCA. Prior to 27 October 2008, if a claimant was suffering from a mental health problem, form IB113 was normally issued to their GP. However, since that date the procedure has now changed, and the only way to find out about whether form IB113 has been issued, is to contact the GP surgery directly.

On the point about taking along your medication, if my memory serves me correctly, you are actually required to take it with you unless this procedure has changed now?

I have an appointment with my GP on monday, should i wait till then to ask about form IB113?

its funny that i get a letter the same day as i recieved my medical appointment from the dla saying i was awarded dla indefintaly?

kind regards steve

As you have an appointment with your GP on Monday, it may be preferable to ask him/her at that time if form IB113 has been received?

Exactly the same thing happened to me i.e.Atos medical appt and notification of DLA indefinately in same post. I am assured that this ( & also my contact with the relevant agencies re a change in £ circumstances) is purely coincidental. But one cannot help but wonder. BTW I "passed" my IB medical (strange term?) but it s due for review 03/2011 so I await the ESA .I hope that you get your required outcome on Mon
