'suggested journey planner' to DLA medical was created by carol48
With my appointment for medical for my DLA they have sent a 'suggested journey planner' time taken to walk from my house to bus stop, which buses to get how long on bus etc right up to accessment centre. Totalled at bottom time of complete journey. Has anyone ever heard of this being sent to them? Why would they go into such detail for each individual person, looking up everybodies route from A to B - time taken to walk from house, buses, trains, time of walk between etc. According to mine I have a 10 minute walk to bus stop to catch same bus which actually stops right outside my house, 3 stops before the one they suggest I walk to. Not that I will be using public transport as it is too long. Anybody else experiences this, Anybody got thought why they send it?

They sent me a route map for my ESA medical at Yeovil. I had to catch a bus at something like 6am, from the bus stop in the village that would have taken me at least an hour to walk to - such is my poor mobility. The bus went to Dorchester, where I had to walk to the railway station (10 mins approx they said), wait for another hour for the train to Yeovil. In Yeovil from the railway station I had to walk to another bus stop (5 mins approx) to get yet another bus and then a "5 min" walk to the assessment centre ready for my appointment at 10.30 am. They didn't offer an iron lung at the assessment centre however! Jenny

Hi,
The journey planner is standard practice. But it's just generated by computer software, not done by real humans, which is why they are often not very good.
Good luck,
Steve

Hi thanks jenny and steve, should have realised it was done by computer, maybe they should start doing computer medicals, can't be any worse than atos ones. Thanks for wishing me luck on Friday, if it was a normal doctor I wouldn't be worried but as everyone seems to realise myself included, it wont be, so I will worry just like everyone else , , would like to say at least it will be all over after friday but it could just be the start. Good luck to everyone else facing the same thing.

Hiya Carol ,
just out of interest -did it look anything like the Direct gov journey planner ? as that has been notable by its failures in the past with wrong timings and wrong bus numbers etc see
HERE .
Click the link on that page stating "Start Planning your Journey"

Hi Rich,
Had a look, it is similar but the timing is different, This one is quicker, 3 mins less walking at the start to the same bus stop and 2 mins less walk from central station than the one they sent me. If they had used this table they would see that I can get a bus from here straight to glasgow instead of a bus to the other end of the town, walk then train. Bus stop to glasgow is on my door step, 0 mins walk and 35 mins bus, The route they sent takes 53 mins, not that it matters as my care worker is taking me in the car 15 mins on motorway, would have one foor in the grave by time I got there if I went their way lol.
