Pip home assessment was created by zoe1986
I’ve got a home assessment on 30th April 2026. Ive asked for an extension on filling out my pip renewal so have now until 24th June so they won’t have my answers back for home assessment . I’ve previously had and continue to receive high rate care low mobility for mostly mental health and Cfs . I’m getting so stressed about the home assessment . Will they make a decision on that alone or wait for my form back . Psychiatrist and OT are going to do me a joint supporting letter. I suffer with intrusive thoughts and the home assessment worry is making these worse

Hi zoe1986

I knew they were starting home assessments again, but you are the first member that has reported having one. Do you want them to come to your home? You could ask for another type of assessment eg telephone assessment if you would prefer. They have to consider the change.

If your psychiatrist is willing to write a letter, you might want them to argue that any assessment is going to cause you OPD (Overwhelming Psychological Distress) and ask the DWP to carry out a paper-based assessment. If they agree to write such a letter, they need to use the overwhelming psychological distress phrase.

There's certainly a long time before the assessment and the time your form is due in. I would hope they would look at both before they make a decision - but I can't say for definite what they will do either way.
