PIP review was created by tillyboo
Hi. I know this probably " how long is a piece of srting" question.
I sent off my PIP review on 24th Aug sign for & DWP text to say recieved on 26th Aug. Are there still long wait times with reviews?
Any ideas of wait times?
Lifes incredibly tough at present my husbands first line cancer treatment hasnt worked, so 2nd line started.
I need major surgery, but consultant as postponed for up to 9 months & I get results on 20th regarding my spine & nerve conduction test, due to hand numbness, clumsiness & dropping things on a faily basis.
I did a thourough PIP review report with help & my GP also gave a letter of current medical conditions i am awaiting treatment for PTSD but theres a 45 week waiting list, but all my meds have been increased to help.
Thanks in advance for any replies

Hi tillyboo
You are correct, "how long is a piece of string" I have read that waiting times have dropped as the big push on ESA has receded.. It also depends on where you reside.
I was talking to a client today they had undergone a new form of treatment following Chemo called Autoimmune therapy under NHS which is still ongoing, their tumour had shrunk from 30cms to 6cms, the after effects are nowhere as bad as Chemo.

Hi thanks for reply. I live Surrey area.
My husband was on immunotherapy called Keytruda( not sure if thats auto immune therapy?) for 6 months, which did shrink lymph nodes, but then the next scan showed lymph nodes grown & lung tumour grown, thankfully still only 2 bone mets & cyberknife to brain met as cleared that.
So he started chemo which side affects were ok, but last week had a delayed adverse reaction to immunotherapy, which stopped in August, caused a colitis flare up & was in Marsden urgent care for 4 days. Hes now being weaned off prednislone & chemos been halted due to this delayed immno side affect. So in limbo with his treatment & terrified. But he feels ok in fact the best since this hell cancer started in January. He as 3 more chemos left then a chemo maintenance, hes stage 4 & on a trials wing at the Marsden.
So I was hoping for a lengthy wait on my PIP review or paper base as previous, until hes back on treatment. But the way our luck as gone this year, who knows. As I couldnt cope with a face or any assessment TBH I'm a mess mentally & physically. Having horrific panic attacks which my GP rings me to try & talk me down, aling side diazepam & sleeping tablets, but I sleep the most 2 hrs, as pain & stress doesnt leave me.
Life is absoutely a living hell at the minute & just trying to take each day as it comes.
Thanks again for reply

Hello, I hope it’s ok to reply to this. I’m just sharing my experience of the pip review.
My review process started last years. 19th September 2024. Due to circumstances I had to have three extensions and they received the completed paperwork on 27th November 2024.
I’ve had a couple of texts since then stating that they will let me know when they will be progressing the review.
Yesterday I receive a text stating that they will let health care professional had done their report (not had a call so been done by paper this time) and they were going to make a decision. It states within 6 weeks I should have an answer.
So mine has taken 11 months so far BUT you could take off a couple of months as I needed extensions. You don’t know if that pushes my review to the ‘back of the queue so to speak). Plus I don’t know how they’re doing with the backlog. They may have caught up some?
I am so sorry that things are so tough for you and your husband and I hope you haven’t got too long a wait for the review to be done and both get the treatments you need..
Take care

Hi Tillyboo
I'm sorry to hear of the really tough time you and your husband are having. As Gary says, we can't predict when assessments come through. If by any chance they don't make a paper-based decision for you and they suggest a telephone assessment, you can challenge it and say that you are in no fit state. If they refuse the first time to change it, you can challenge it again. Let's hope you won't be offered a telephone assessment and that they'll do a paper-based one again.
