ESA - UC disaster!! was created by Hipchick
I have a bit of a problem.
My Partner and I have recently moved in together and consequently have been switched to Universal Credit.
Before this we both independently claimed ESA.
We’re both Disabled and both of us were in the ESA Support Group.
We’ve just had our first Payment from the DWP and it’s only £61!
They’ve taken off the Claim the fact that I am somehow still getting ESA and the Carers Allowance that she gets for gets for Her Autistic Son.
This allied to my Partners ESA stopping means a monthly loss of over £1,100!
Does this sound right to you?
BTW- This is also before we attempt to claim Rent and Council Tax Benefits.
This is all new to me as until 2022 I’ve always been working (thanks Covid!) so I don’t understand how it works?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as my lovely Lady has been in tears all day!

Hi Hipchick
Welcome to the forum.
You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum.
We cannot answer your question as we do not have all the facts, You need to seek specialist advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation: advicelocal.uk where they can take all your circumstances into consideration when giving you advice.
UC is made up of elements, you can only claim one LCWRA element even if you are both in receipt of ESA Support, you may be eligible to claim a carer element, if you claim Carers Allowance that will be deducted £ for £ from your UC award. You can claim for a housing element but not council tax, council tax is paid via your local authority and not via UC. PIP is ignored when working out your UC allowance.
You need to check the breakdown of your UC award, click on the home tab and then on payments, it will give you a breakdown as to how your claim is worked out.
