Should I volunteer to move over from DLA to PIP before the Welfare Reform Bil was created by Teeka
Hello, I am desperately seeking an answer to the question - should I volunteer to move over from DLA to PIP before the Welfare Reform bill is potentially (and looking likely) to pass next week?
I am disabled and have a long term, degenerative condition. I was assessed for DLA more than 20 years ago and was only awarded the lowest amount for preparing a meal. I have not been called to migrate to PIP by the DWP. I am now in my 60s and struggling to work (as my condition deteriorates) and make ends meet and was considering volunteering to move over to PIP because the lowest rate is near 3 times higher than what I currently receive.
My question is are disabled people migrating from DLA to PIP considered new claimants and therefore subject to the new more stringent point system?
Should I make the move to migrate now before the bill is potentially passed into law in July? Or would I be considered a new claimant as of now.
Thanks for any and all help and advice. I have spoken with Scope and the CAB with no definitive advice.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Teeka
Just as the CAB and Scope couldn't give you a definitive answer, nor can we, because there isn't one at the moment. Keep an eye on the newsletter - Steve will report on changes as they are announced. We don't know whether the DWP will allow people to volunteer to move across because migrations from DLA to PIP were paused until 2028.
