Universal Credit Migration Notice Extention

More

I've received a letter from the DWP which says that they have extended the deadline to claim Universal Credit by 4 weeks. I didn't ask them for this extension and the letter says 'Your existing financial support will end if you do not claim Universal Credit by this [date].

Is this date the 'final deadline day' or does this extension mean the final deadline day is also extended?

Many thanks.

Hi George222

The final deadline day is the end of the first Assessment Period if the claim had been made on the deadline day. I don't know what your letter says. If it says final deadline day then that is what it is.

Many thanks for responding.

It doesn't say anything else. It doesn't mention 'final deadline day' anywhere - it just says

Universal Credit Migration Notice Extension,

'We have extended your deadline to claim Universal Credit. You now need to claim by [date].

Universal Credit is replacing your:
[Benefits]

(then in bold)
'Your existing financial support from these benefits will end if you do not claim Universal Credit by [date].

Then there is a section on 'How to get help' and other general information.

The extended date is exactly 4 weeks from the original deadline date.

If it were the final deadline day would the letter definitively say so?

Yes, the letter was dated 7 days prior to the original deadline date.

I received the letter by Royal Mail (in a brown envelope with no stamp or indication of class of postage) 2 days prior to the original deadline date.

The deadline extension was for 4 weeks after the original deadline date.

Hi George222

So you have been given a new Deadline date and that also means a new Final Deadline date. I hope this makes sense.
