Back dated payment UC was created by M&E
Hi
We will receive a back dated figure of £5000 after a MR for carers element
We have been advised that this will not be considered savings due to being a back dated award
And there is no time limit to this

Could you advise if we were to save ( fingers crossed) another £6000 would this be considered within the normal savings threshold of £6000 and how will DWP monitor this

Hope this made sense
M

Hi M,

Backdated payments are usually disregarded for 12 months, then if over the £6,000 threshold, it will be classified as savings. You will lose £4.35 for every £250 over the threshold.

Hi Chris,

I seem to remember that there is legislation that states back payments of £5000 and over can be disregarded for the duration of the claim. Not sure if it applies to M&E's case of course but was discussed with me with a welfare rights advisor when I received a PIP backpayment. Sadly the payment wasn't large enough to qualify in my case.

In the journal it said.
“ there is no time limit for these arrears as this was a backdated award of UC “

We are to revive £5,243, we have £3000 in savings.
Will the combined £8,243 be considered over the £6000 threshold

Hi M&E

Your disregard will run indefinitely for the duration of your UC award, for as long as your UC carries on continuously.
So you don't count the £5243 at all and you can save upto £6000 before you start getting the UC Tariff Reduction.
