My husband who has epilepsy was awarded PIP standard rate mobility by a tribunal in 2016
He told the tribunal he needed someone with him for safety reasons on journeys as even though he only had about a dozen seizures per year, the seizures were unpredictable and involved sudden loss of consciousness and falling, or altered awareness and risky behaviour ( like running into traffic)
He did not request a statement of reasons because he assumed the decision was correct due to the low frequency
"Epilepsy is a condition that poses unique challenges to those living with it and should be considered a special case..... For most, seizures are unpredictable, a constant fear of what might happen and when.” EPILEPSY SOCIETY UK.
