Hi SeaSpirit,
It's simply to do with the fact that my savings are over the £6,000 - so every year, in July, the DWP requests all my bank statements/savings accounts are uploaded to them via my journal - so they can ensure that I am receiving the correct amount of Universal Credit. As you lose £4.35 for every £250 in savings you have, over the £6,000 threshold. Anything over £16,000 - you lose your UC altogether. This is exactly the same process in February but completed by my local council, to ensure that I am receiving the correct amount of Council Tax Support, based on my savings.
Hope this helps clarify what you asked.
Chris.
