Uc /esa and carers allowance was created by copshaw
Hi their been on the above as a couple for 3 years ,my carers allowance or carer payment has been moved to carer support Scotland ,I now do not qualify seemingly as I get new style esa £138.20 just seems strange that it has been stopped and my UC has been cut im at a loss of what is happening,would I be better coming off esa and just claim uc and carers ,my wife and I both qualify for the benefit thanks

Hi copshaw,
ESA is deducted pound for pound from uc as "unearned income" meaning you are no better of from receiving esa than if you just claimed uc.
The standard weekly rate of carer support payment is also deducted pound for pound from uc, however the Scottish government gives bonus payments twice a year to those on carer support payments and the bonus is not deducted from uc.
Therefore the best course of action is to cancel you ESA claim, if it means you will again qualify for carer support payment.
