Hi clearwater
Not for mixed aged couples, they have to claim UC and the Housing element.

Hi Deg Peard
It is true, but not for the state pension claimant, the migration notice would be for their younger half.

Hi Deg Peard
Yes CTS is means tested but it is not a legacy benefit, Pension Credit is also means tested.
Universal Credit is replacing 6 benefits called ‘legacy benefits’. These are:
~ Housing Benefit
~ income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
~ income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
~ Child Tax Credits (CTC)
~ Working Tax Credits (WTC)
~ Income Support
You can’t usually make a new claim for these benefits.

Gary,
If your a pensioner andyou get PIP, and also housing benefit. Does that mean you will have to go on UC to receive the housing benefit.
Finally if you do have to go on UC to get your housing benefit, would you be forced to go to look for work. It's all so confusing.
Regards

Hi MrFibro
UC stops the day before you reach state pension age. When UC stops, you do not have to look for work.
Under UC you can get awarded the Housing Element not Housing Benefit. When you reach state pension age your Housing element will stop and you will have to apply for Housing Benefit.
