Hello,

I applied for PIP over the phone 1 st March 2024. They filled in the PIP1 form for me and said they would send the PIP2 form within 4 weeks. I have no vision in my right eye as it was removed after I was blown up in a car explosion when younger. My left eye the sight isn’t too bad but has got worse as I’ve aged and I do have problems reading small type especially dense text as tend to skip lines. So large print is better for me. They said that was fine. After 2 weeks I phoned up as hadn’t received the PIP2 form. The person was vague and said I didn’t need to fill one in. I said well how will you decide to give me it then? They said via speaking to doctors etc. So I left it heard nothing for months. Then start of July PIP 2 form turned up to fill in which I did. I sent it back 26 th July and text saying they received it nothing since. So this is now 27 weeks since I applied. 20 of those waiting for the form they first said I didn’t need to fill in.

Has anyone else had this trouble waiting for a large print form to come? Seems like discrimination really if the only reason it took so long was the need to have the large print form printed out. The form was also not renumbered/ relabelled for the fact the page numbers didn’t match now. At the back the check list said sign on page 10 but this was actually on page 12 now if filling in yourself. Just seems sloppy and a bit unprofessional to do things like that. I have phoned a couple of times but just can’t get through and phone just cuts off after 45-60 mins. I assume the changes to the assessment companies might cause some delays going forward. The one near me is the company that lost all its contracts from start of September. Is there anything I can do re this or just have to wait it out? I did think about contacting my MP although not sure that would help much as many on here say they are pretty useless. Thanks for any advice re this.

Hi Kit

I'm afraid your experience is fairly typical if you require something outside what they view as the 'norm'. And you are right; it is discrimination because the service you receive is worse than the majority. You could contact your MP for some help. It is true - many MPs are less than helpful, but we have had members that have had good support from an MPs office and speeded up the process.

First-time applications are supposed to have priority, so I would keep trying to get through and get an update on what's happening. I don't know when you're ringing, but first thing in the morning is sometimes best.
