PIP before and after reaching state pension age.

If a person is awarded PIP and then reaches state pension age, what happens to their PIP once the end date for the award is reached? I.e the end date for their present PIP is when they are aged 69 for example. So do they reapply or renew their existing PIP or lose PIP and have to apply for attendance allowance?

(I understand that if someone reaches state pension age and are not on PIP, they cannot apply for PIP but must apply for attendance allowance.)

Hi Blueberry Owl

Your understanding of PIP is correct, once a claimant reaches State Pension age, if they are not already on PIP or have applied for PIP before they reach State Pension age then they will have to apply for Attendance Allowance.

We advise anyone in receipt of PIP to contact DWP before they reach the end of their award, usually claimants will be reminded to contact DWP but not always, especially if you won your award at a Tribunal, so make a note of the end date and then contact DWP for a review form, usually you will be sent a new claims form and not a review form, if you kept a copy of your original application form then use that as a template when completing your new form.

Forgot to say to contact DWP 6 months before the end date of your claim.
