Esa/Universal credit advice please. was created by Markov
I have just been awarded Enhanced rate pip and enhanced rate mobility. First of all thank you to the group for the guides etc. Can anyone tell me if there is anything i should be claiming that I am not just in terms of benefits. I currently claim Esa and I'm in the support group and get £125 per week, however when I look at Universal credit it seems to be more per month than what I get on Esa. My monthly Esa is £500. I don't need to claim housing benefit or that as I live with family who own their home. If anyone could answer id be very grateful, thank you. Oh I forgot to add I live in Northern Ireland.

Some claimants will receive more under UC than ESA, put your information into one of the online benefit calculators to see if this applies to you.

Hello Gordon,

I appreciate everyone is still mulling over yesterday's budget speech, but does the additional money announced for Universal Credit reinstate the old Severe Disability Premium? I'm currently in the ESA support group. The turn2us calculator reports I'm going to lose money in the shift to UC, whenever that happens.

Thanks.

There are actually two issues rather than the one.

It doesn't really matter whether the money is for the Premium or not, actually I don't think that it is, the Government have committed to resolving the issue. However, the problem is fundamental as the UC legislation does not currently support the payment of the SD Premium, there is currently a consultation underway to see how this will be done.

The second issue is the Managed migration of legacy benefit claimants to UC, the Government has always said that no one will be worse off after the transfer, although we are still waiting to see how this will be achieved.
