I cannot tell you that you do not need to contact the DWP about this change, but they are less bothered by a claimant not telling them of a deterioration.
The key issue is whether you can now reasonably score more points and whether you can score sufficient for an increased award.
The vast majority of the PIP activities do not score extra points just because the claimants get worse, they often introduce additional criteria that needs to be met.
I would have a good look at the PIP Claim guide to see what you will need to meet in order to receive a higher award, then if you do, write to the DWP office dealing with your claim notifying then of the change.
Understand that doing this will result a full reassessment of your claim, new PIP2 and almost certainly a face to face assessment.
