Transfer from PIP to DLA

I used to have a lifetime award of the mobility component of DLA, but do understand such an animal no longer exists under PIP., so I am delighted with the award, which is for two and a half years.
Now here comes my query. I understand the 4 week rule about transferring from DLA to PIP as it applies to the Mobility component. DLA pay for the car till 16th December, four weeks after the decision was made and then PIP take over the payments. There is no back payment to the date of claim as DLA have been paying for that time. Yep, understood. However, they have applied the same rule to the Daily Living award which is a new award. It will not be paid till 16th December and no back payment to the date of claim. I never claimed that component under DLA, so hey have not been paying it since the date of claim to 16th December.
Do you know if this is correct please, or should I be raising it with them? If the fact that I got DLA anything means the rule has to apply to the whole new award then fair enough, but if I can get the Daily Living component treated separately and paid since the date of claim, this would be most welcome as I had to stop work in June.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give on this.

Suncatcher2015 wrote: Hello forum - I have a query I wonder if you can help with. The background is as follows: I have received DLA Mobility component since 1983 following a severe RTA and broken spine etc. It has gone straight to Motability to pay for the car. Recently however, due to worsening health issues and the added complication of heart problems, I wanted to make a new claim for Daily Living Component. I contacted DLA, was told I needed to claim PIP and that if successful, my car payments would transfer to PIP too. I duly did this and with help from this wonderful resource, following the medical etc, have been awarded higher rate Daily Living and Mobility PIP. So far, so good and my deepest thanks for the help this site gives in filling in the form and avoiding the pitfalls.

Hi Sc2015,
Great news on your PIP Awards !!

Thanks for the positive comments regarding B&W !!

I understand where you are coming from, in that your query is due to the fact that you were previously not in receipt of a DLA Care award, but have now been awarded PIP Daily Living.
Even though this was the case, I am afraid that due to you receiving The PIP Awards as a result of being transferred from DLA, there will be no backdating whatsoever.
So both components of your new PIP award, Mobility and Daily Living will only be payable from 4 weeks after the date of the superceding PIP decision.
That is how it is laid down in legislation.
You can expect to receive your PIP renewal forms around 12 months before the end date of your current award.
The nearest PIP award equivalent to a DLA Indefinite/Lifetime award is what is called an "Ongoing" award.
These seem to be given out very rarely, and I can only recall around a handfull of our members who have obtained such an award.
We also have some who have obtained 10 years awards, but 2, 3 or 5 years seems to be the average award.

To be honest, I was simply delighted to get the award without the stress of a mandatory reconsideration, appeal and tribunal!!!! Once again, I am convinced it was following the advice of this site on how to fill in a form that made the whole thing much easier than it might have been.
Thanks again
