Hi Friends,

My dad is 88 and recently been moved to a care home, he is compos-mentis, but too weak to look after himself. I've been looking after him for 6 years, but heartbreakingly I couldn't cope anymore.

I some questions, they have stopped his DLA which I understand, this goes towards his care, what about his state pension, can he still claim it as he likes the odd beer and a few pounds in his pocket.

Thank you.

I believe that the State Pension will be included in the financial assessment made to decide what fees are payable, however, your father should be left a minimum amount every week for him to spend as he wishes (just under £25).

He/you should be able to get a breakdown of how his fees have been calculated from his Local Authority.
