My wife is in receipt of PIP, income support, housing benefit and my wife recieved carers allowance for our disabled daughter. I am on her claim as her "dependant" I have turned 55 and I am eligible to take a lump sum from my private pension We want to purchase a narrow boat to take our daughter on holidays but the amount I take out will be taxed. Does this effect my families entitlement to our benefits ( even though the amount won't be used to live on) and we will only have it to make this purchase. It is over the recommended amount the law says you need to live on and I'm afraid our meanse tested benefits will be effected. Can someone advise please?
Taking a pension lump-sum would not affect your PIP as this is not means tested. However, it could well impact on your IS and housing benefit. I suggest that you get face-to-face expert advice to determine the likely effect on your income-related benefits.
