Query: the PIP 1 form and DLA data was created by MariW
I was looking through the PIP 1 form again last night. I assume I will receive a copy of this form as part of the “invitation” to apply for PIP in place of my indefinite award of DLA.

On page 18 of the PIP 1, there’s a series of questions applicable to DLA awardees. I am quite “happy” for the DWP to garner any information from my DLA file. However, it is stated that old evidence may not be available. I have a copy of the typescript attached all those years ago and follow-up letters from DHSS (as it was called). Newer evidence such as my ESA award will obviously not be in my DLA file but I have the DWP data. I don’t know whether my former GP (long-retired) made a report or included copies of specialists’ reports. This could be discovered easily and copies acquired.

Anyway, I’ll get to the point, would it be appropriate to attach my own DLA-related information to the PIP 1? At least would it be worth a shot?

Thank you,

Mari W

Hi MW,

You could do to show that you have long standing chronic/progressive conditions, that being the case !!

However, as you know, DLA and PIP qualifying criteria are totally different, and when you are assessed for PIP you will be assessed on whether you qualify for PIP, at the time of the assessment, so the more current that the evidence is, the better.

Any extra supporting evince that you are to submit should be sent with The PIP 2 Form, rather than The PIP 1 Form.

You’re early today, Bro!

I have a fair quality of information to include with my PIP2. I won’t sell ‘em short.

I appreciate the differences ‘twixt DLA and PIP but March 2015 version of the PIP1 makes specific reference to a claimant’s DLA case file which suggests even the DWP recognise that some things stay the same. For example, if a claimant was physically incapable of performing certain manual tasks when claiming DLA it will be true when invited to claim PIP, particularly in the case of progressive conditions. Ditto minimal vision doesn’t get better. If these things were acknowledged in writing by the DSS when DLA was awarded/upgraded is it worth including with the PIP1 as well as the PIP2?

The PIP1 form is only issued if the claimant is unable to make a claim for PIP over the phone, there is no point sending medical evidence with this as it as administrative form for the claim and only asks basic questions about your health to ensure eligibility for the benefit.

Gordon,
I assumed I would receive a PIP1 when “invited” to apply for PIP instead of my indefinite award of DLA.

There are multiple questions in the PIP1…the latest version is a couple of pages longer than the last due to the sudden interest is a PIP claimant’s DLA case file. That’s a big change. I would not want to answer questions on the phone because my speech is poor. For some claimants, answering questions can be distressing or over-complex on the phone.

I take your point about not sending information with the PIP1. However, are you telling me and other folks with indefinite DLA awards that we won’t get a PIP1? What is the first sign that a DLA claimant is to be “ invited” to claim PIP?

Thanks,

Mari

When you are selected, you will receive a PIP 0202 letter inviting you to claim PIP, it documents how to claim PIP, when a claim must be made by and what happens to your DLA if you do not make a claim or do not do so within the required timescales.

The PIP2 form is either filled in by the DWP when you actually make the PIP claim, or if you cannot do this, then you can request a copy be sent you for you to complete.

See page 12 of the current PIP Claim guide for more details.
