Moving to Income-Related ESA was created by baccytin
I've tried to search here and on search engines but get conflicting and confusing information.
I had a letter from DWP in January confirming rate changes from April and it also confirmed that my Contributory ESA will end in June. I'm anxious to get correct advice as to getting income-related ESA payments, as this is my only source of income and I have no savings or property.
I really want to avoid any period of time without income as you would imagine.
What is the correct procedure and do the DWP try to play games, i.e. not sending forms or deliberately sending letters at the latest opportunity?
Thankyou for any help.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

The DWP should contact you 12 weeks in advance of your ESA(CB) finishing to see whether you are eligible for Income Related ESA, however, our experience from the forum is that this often does not happen so if they have not contacted you need to contact them.
The information needed to check your eligibility for ESA(IR) is captured on either an ESA2 form or an ESA3, the forms seem to be substantially the same, we're not entirely clear which form the DWP will actually use in these circumstance, but requesting an ESA3 will result in your receiving one of these.
Your eligibility for ESA(IR) is dependant on your household income, your savings and assets, and any hours that your partner works. See
