ESA Question. was created by orangeegg
Hi!
I will be sending my ESA application off tomorrow, it was done on paper not over the phone. I am coming off of income support. I was wondering if you could help me out? Due to the nature of my agoraphobia, panic and anxiety disorder, the DWP always carried out my Work Focused Interviews by telephone or by home visit. I am stressing out a lot that during the assessment phase I may be asked to attend the local job centre. I can't. Can you possibly let me know how it all works as I want to avoid any sanctions. I am also currently appealing my PIP mobility decision, as I was awarded nothing for this element but high rate for care. Apologies for this being a bit disjointed, I'm all over the place. A slight aside, I was awarded PIP without a medical so I've never faced this kind of assessment.
Thanks.

Are you currently receiving Income Support Due to Incapacity? If you are then you should be transferred to ESA at a time of the DWP's choosing and there should be no need for you to make a new claim for ESA. If you are receiving IS for any other reason then please ignore the above.

New ESA claimants can be required to attend a WFI during the assessment phase (before an award is made), however your advisor is required to take into account any limitations that result from you conditions and can either defer the WFI or hold it over then phone, you would need to contact the JC+ advisor to arrange this, the fact that they have previously done this for you on IS should help with any requirement under ESA.

For more information about ESA and the assessment process have a look at our Understanding ESA guide and our ESA Claim guides on the following link

If you have any further questions, please reply to this post and we will do our best to help you.

Thank you so much Gordon. I am being transitioned over because my daughter is turning 5. I've been feeling a tad overwhelmed and worked up dealing with my written PIP appeal, ESA and knowing this ESA50 will be coming up. Thank goodness for sites like this and my support workers. :)
