ESA/PIP and moving to different local authority was created by serenity jones
I might have to move to another part of the country for family reasons and would like to know

1. whether my ESA (support group) and PIP would just be transferred and I would continue to receive payments, or would I have to go through the whole application process again?

2. I realise I wouldn't receive HB, but would the family member's financial status affect my entitlement to ESA?

Many thanks.

Your moving should have no effect on your ESA, it will continue in payment, just make sure that you notify the DWP in writing of the move.

Your family members are not classed as being part of your household and would have no effect on your ESA, the only possible area where there could be an issue would be if you are currently receiving the Severe Disability Premium, one of the qualifying criteria is that you live alone or are considered to be. I would expect you to lose this Premium if you are now going to be living with someone else.

Thank you.

I do receive the ESA severe disability payment, so I would lose that.

What about PIP? Would that be affected? I get low rate for mobility and standard for daily living. The person I would be living with is 88 years old.

PIP would not be affected.

If the person you are going to live with is receiving DLA Medium or Higher rate Care or Attendance Allowance then you would still be classed as living alone, either way you need to notify ESA that you will be living with someone.

That's very reassuring about the PIP, I really couldn't face the ordeal of applying again.

I will make sure to notify ESA and the PIP people of my move when it happens.

Many thanks for your help Gordon, much appreciated.

Hi sj,

If you are going to inform them over the phone, make sure you back this up in writing to ESA & PIP depts :

Sending Documents to the DWP or ATOS

You then have paper evidence that you have informed them.
