Dla to pip transfer was created by David Clelland
I just received a letter today from dwp saying that I have to apply for pip and must claim by 4/4/15 or risk losing my dla. My dla was due to run out in July. Don't understand how they can drop it in April.

However, has anybody successfully transferred from dla to pip without the need for a medical assessment. Also what is the general period of waiting time. Dwp say 16 weeks but reading media articles it really is more likely to be 6 months.

Somebody must have looking after me, as yesterday I took out the subscription for the b&w.

If anybody can help answer my questions, it would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

Your DLA will not be stopped in April providing you make an application for PIP within the timescales listed on the letter, in fact your current DLA award will now be extended beyond July if a Decision on your PIP claim is not made by then.

The majority of claimants will have a face to face assessment, but that does not mean that you will have one, it will primarily depend on the information you supply in the claim forms and the evidence you attach. We do know of members who have been successful without the need for a face to face.

You should have a look at our PIP Claims for more details of the process and the assessment criteria.

I received a letter informing me I had to claim pip as my dla is due to run out. This wasn't supposed to happen until July. The letter said I had to commence my claim before April or my dla would be stopped.

I'm not the most confident of speakers on the phone and so asked for the form to be issued and I would complete.

Just a few questions which I'm looking for answers on

1. By the time I get the form through, I will have roughly two weeks to compete and return. Can I ask for an extension and is this granted automatically?

2. How long does it take to process the completed form and foes it always involve a medical. I get stressed out and it triggers my angina.

3. Given the fact that dla is being devolved to Scotland, surely it's up to Holyrood to decide how to deal with renewal claims. In other words provided the legislation to devolve dla becomes law before July, then surely dwp have no jurisdiction to make me transfer?

Hi D, I have moved your new query to your existing thread so that everything is in one place. I hope that will make it easier to find the replies as well as reducing duplication of effort for those who do reply :)

I will try to answer your queries in order -

1) Yes, you will be able to ask for an extension of the time to return the PIP form. You should ask for this in writing in case of problems later.

2) I'm afraid there is no knowing how long it might take for a decision to be made. Some members have reported things being dealt with very quickly whereas other have waited for many months. The better the information you provide, the better the chance of a decision being made without a face2face assessment.

3) We currently have no information regarding the devolution of responsibility to Holyrood. I am not aware whether there is anything in the public domain regarding this.
