ESA renewal was created by mrjones
I was awarded ESA in March 2014 and placed in the wrag and so far I have had one phone call from the job centre advisor asking me some basic questions and to repeat basically what was on the application form concerning my illness. Other than that I have here'd nothing. The letter states
"The award will be paid for a maximum of 365 days unless in the support group." and nothing else!
I was wondering when I should here from the DWP. And will I have to reapply

Mr Jones

If you are only receiving ESA(CB) at the moment then your payments are limited to 365 days from the date you were moved to ESA or the date you claimed it, from your post the year will be up in March of this year.

The DWP should contact you in advance of your payments finishing to see whether you are eligible for Income Related ESA, but often don't so I would phone them about four weeks before the year is up and request an ESA3.

The ESA3 is used to capture the information needed to determine if your are eligible for ESA(IR) this will be dependant on your household income, assets and savings and any hours that a partner works.

Asset rule for ESA(IR)

24 hour work rule for ESA(IR)

If you are eligible then your payments will continue past the 365 days until you are re-assessed, the DWP can tell you when this will be.

If you are not eligible for ESA(IR) then as long as you continue to Limited Capability for Work, which you currently do, then you will receive NI Credits which count towards a full State Pension and if you at any time meet the criteria for the Support Group, then you can ask to be re-assessed, if successful then your ESA(CB) will be re-instated.

To add to Gordon's excellent advice -while you are receiving NI credits you will still be subjected to periodic reassessments.
