2 esa people getting married was created by fionaf
Hi my partner and I are each receiving income based ESA. I am in the support group my partner is not. I also get DLA. Each of us are getting separate housing benefits. I am worried. What do we need to do when we actually are married and live with each other. Do we get joint ESA? How will it effect my DLA. Who do we have to alert? What do we do concerning housing benefits. And finally...we are old friends wanting to help each other.....do you think our marriage will arouse suspisions with the DWP?

People get married for lots of reasons, I would not worry about what the DWP think of you.

You need to inform all of the agencies that you receive benefits from; ESA. DLA and your Local Authority.

Your DLA will not be affected.

Both your ESA and HB will be affected when you live together and you will only be able to have one claim for the household.

I would recommend that you get face to face advice from a qualified advisor, they will be able to calculate which option will give you the largest income, do an internet search for "welfare advice" with your postcode, town or county.
