PIP claim form was created by raindaisy
Hi < last April i made the call to dwp to make a claim for PIP, i was sent a claim form to complete , which had to be back in by end of april. I never completed it, i was hospitalized and then the help i had asked for went off sick. the form remained here un completed. Frankly, i could do without the stress. In October , my GP told me she had completed a medical form for PIP. I was then contacted by ATOS , and asked to attend a medical assessment on a Sunday, this was a Friday. I explained , i needed 2 weeks notice, advocates dont work on Sundays and I had not completed a claim form. They said they would pass it back to DWP. One Sunday, DWP rang and asked if I still wanted to claim PIP, I said I did , but i needed some time to complete the form, she said it was fine , complete it asap and send it in. Today, it is completed, finally, using the PIP guide on here. Is this frankly a wasted exercise ?? as I will now be told the form is too late?

Hi,

Welcome to Benefits and Work :)

If your forum name is also your real name, you may wish to change it to maintain some anonymity.

This can be done quite easily by following the instructions on this FAQ :

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

I would send the PIP 2 "How your Disability Affects You" in.

They can allow extensions of time with PIP, and some of our members have had such extensions.

The PIP 2 is an integral part of The PIP Assessment Process, and if you can provide enough information in The PIP 2, there may be no need for a face to face consultation.

PIP Assessment Providers (Capita & ATOS) have recently been encouraged to carry out paper based assessments where at all possible.

Legislation states that you only have to be given 7 Days written notice, and the 7 days can be taken from the date of the letter.

They can offer a shorter notice appointment, but they need you to agree to it.

You are allowed to re-arrange once, if necessary.

If ATOS are your Assessment Provider they are far more reluctant to carry out Home Assessments than Capita.

You can read more information on this : Here.

Page 64 onwards of our : PIP Claims Guide, (2nd Link on page) covers what to expect, although it is not a definite that a face to face will take place.

If you do not send The PIP 2 Form in, this will greatly increase the chances of a face to face assessment being necessary.
