When replying to questions should you describe your condition as when you have taken pain killers or without having taken any?
For example:
How far can you walk before feeling severe discomfort?
Without pain killers only a few steps........... with pain killers I could walk much further.

Hi M,

Welcome to Benefits and Work :)

Claimants should always shy away from describing how their limitations affect them on their "Worse" days, and should try and explain how they are for the majority of the time.

Therefore, if you take repeat "Meds" you should explain how you are with these Meds, although you could also mention that your limitations would be more severe without them.

Remember, with DLA, any distance that you can manage to walk after the onset of sever pain and discomfort should not be counted.

The manner, speed and gait in which you walk should also be taken into account.

I would advise that you have a read through our DLA Claims Guides on this page :

DLA Guides

As you will see, there is also a guide on "DLA Changes and Renewals" about a third of the way down.

Below, there is a link to The DWP DLA Decision Makers Guide on how they should assess qualification for DLA.

You will need to scroll down to The Mobility Component section :

Please reply to this topic if you have any further quesries.
