hi ..i am still no wiser what esa i will receive due to receiving my late husband.s OP ... Citizen Advice said i may have 50 p in every pound over £85 pw deducted but did not know if this was also taxed..or if the Care allowance
my partner receives for me will be taxed..my housing benefit has been stopped as they think i.m receiving ESA and the old SDA.i told them it is now EsA that i have been transferred to..I also rang the job centre to see what i should get..and although the lady was nice .she did not really know ... any advice please on who to ask..i.m beginning to think that ESA is more complicated than quantum physics ha ha ..

You can try finding alternative welfare advice in your area by doing an internet search for "welfare advice" with your postcode, town or county.

ESA(CB) is liable to tax, whether you pay any will depend on whether you have other taxable income that takes you over your personal allowance (e.g. an occupational pension). There won't be a tax deduction from your ESA(CB) it will be collected via your pension(s) by reducing your tax code.

Pension income is deducted at £1/week for every £2/week of pension income from your ESA(CB), the first £85/week of your pension is exempted, so if you have a pension of £100/week then the deduction will be £7.50/week (£100 - £85 = £15 / 2 = £7.50).

Carers Allowance is liable to tax, but as it is your husband receiving it, it will go against his personal allowance not yours.
