Using aids?

Using aids? was created by LisaG
Can any one advise me if it is worth mentioning to the assessor that I had to buy a walking stick due to my mobility issues? Would it make any difference? I got it as I have so much pain and poor balance so thought it would help with stopping me tripping over and alleviate some of the pain. It doesn't, so I don't bother with it too much and it now stands in the corner of the room. It is better for me to hang off my husbands arm. Any thoughts? Would it add to points, reduce them or not make any difference?
Many thanks.

PIP takes far more account of aids than DLA did and more importantly, they are seen in a positive light, so claimants who use aids are more likely to score points than those who do not.

The important thing is to show that the aid is required and not just used, the fact that you hold on to your husband's arm would suggest that you may have issues with either your balance or with stumbling, you might want to consider how you would manage when your husband is not available.

The Moving Around Descriptor makes frequent us of the word "aided"!

Thank you. I do struggle when my husband isn't there so I don't go out if I don't have to. I couldn't get on with the stick, it hurts my hand and as my balance is terrible I can't gauge its use properly. I did put it on my form but was wondering if I tell them that I can't use it.

Being unable to use an aid is just as important as being able to, so you should explain any problems that you have when using this stick.
