The most important thing is to make sure that the renewal forms are with the DWP before the end of your current award and confirmed as received, if your forms are late then the DWP will close your DLA claim with no right of appeal.
Decisions on DLA claims appear to be operating at both extremes, I have seen a number completed in only a couple of weeks and others that have taken many months, there do not appear to be many falling in the middle.
I am afraid there is no way to pre-empt which is the more likely.
