holidays and ESA payment was created by Braquo
HI! I took a 14 day holiday to Greece from late August into September after discussing it with a couple of my consultants and expressing my anxiety around the response of the DWP if I notified them of my absence. The trip was intended both as a respite break and to try and help to improve a bad psoriatic flare-up which had resulted in pretty severe desquamation affecting both my face and the soles of my feet (with bleeding resulting from skin tearing away like parchment).
I decided to comply with the "legal" requirement to notify DWP and submitted an explanatory letter giving dates of absence and the discussions with my consultants who both felt the break would be good for me and might help ameliorate the symptoms.I also informed them that arrangements were in place for all the necessary appropriate assistance and additional health insurance cover for all of my health conditions of which they would be aware.
On return I've heard nothing from DWP to date but did notice a reduction in the fortnightly ESA payment into my a/c. It varied from the usual figure of £287-80 by a few pounds - instead £283.76 was paid in. I am in the support group and also receive DLA both care and mobility at the higher rate.
My query is why the sudden deduction of £4.04 ? I haven't approached the DWP to enquire for the obvious reason that most of us are reluctant to engage with them unless absolutely necessary. The next payment is due on Monday next 29 Sept so I await seeing what is credited to my a/c then. Anyone any observations?
Have they deducted the relevant amount because of the 14 day absence? I'm already concerned that having notified them that it will trigger some sort of negative outcome.

You are allowed to go on holiday for periods of up to 4 weeks without any impact on your ESA, they certainly do not deduct monies for your being absent from the UK and the £4.04 does not correspond to any amount normally paid with regard to ESA, so I am afraid you will have to contact the DWP to find out why there has been a change.
Contacting the ESA call centre will have no impact on your benefits, the staff are not part of the assessment process and have no authority to trigger a re-assessment of your claim.
