What happens between DLA expiry & PIP decision?

During this limbo period, does the DWP consider me to be ‘technically’ able-bodied again? I currently get the Higher Mobility component of DLA, which means I don’t have to pay car tax. I also get the disability component for Working Tax Credit and get reimbursement of my travel costs for NHS treatments through my NHS Tax Credit Exemption Certificate.
When my DLA expires and pending the PIP decision, will I have to start paying car tax again? And will reimbursement of travel costs be taken away too? And how will this affect my Working Tax Credit?
Also, if my PIP application is successful, can I then retrospectively claim back the above costs incurred from the DWP (as a result of DWP delays, & not my fault).
Thankyou for any advice you can give.

Hi A,
If this was an invitation to claim PIP as your fixed term DLA award was due to expire, you should continue to receive the current rate of DLA until 4 weeks after the PIP decision is made, whatever the PIP decision may be.

Just so I'm sure I understand you - I will continue to receive my monthly DLA payments after the DLA expiry date up until and for 4 weeks after my PIP award is made?
I thought all benefit was stopped pending PIP decision, in which case this is good news for me.
If PIP ultimately awards me less than I am getting on DLA currently, would I then have to pay it back?
Thanks

Hi A,
As you were invited to claim PIP, and if you have returned all the forms within the deadlines given, you will continue to receive your current rate of DLA until 4 weeks after the PIP decision is made.

No, this cannot happen.
