How long is a piece of string?

Realistically, I think 4 weeks is probably as good a guess as any.

hi thanks for the advice on here at b+ w just phoned the dwp and have been placed back into the support group for 12 months so that was 10 months l waited for a decision so please can you tell me what a ESA a85 form is thought it would have longer than the 12 months but l guess you can factor in the time l have waited as well so it more like 2 years in all will have to do all again in say 9 months time but then again there will be another long wait on a decision

Congratulations on the award.

Our impression is that in many parts of the country assessment periods are continuing to extend, there is little sign of the reductions that IDS and his cronies keep talking about, so I would not be surprised if your next assessment is protracted.

The ESA85 is the assessment report produced by ATOS following an face to face interview, there is also a shorter ESA85A produced when there is no F2F, you can request a copy from the DWP office that dealt with your re-assessment, it can be requested by phone or in writing.

Hi rm,

You can make a written request for all documentation used in coming to the decision.

Including The ESA85A Medical Report, there may also be an ESA113 Questionnaire if one was sent to your G.P. There could also be an LT54 an explanation of which is at the bottom of this list :

ESA Forms

See also :

ESA medical – what forms to ask for?

You can make the request by using the pro-forma Subject Access Request (SAR) Form by downloading it from the following link :

SAR Form Download

From this page :

DWP Data Protection Policy

You could request the above by name, and add that you are requesting "All" documentation used.

There is a start and end date for the period from which you require the personal information, so to be on the safe side, you could put your start date as when you sent the ESA50 back to ATOS.

You could also make it clear that you require written confirmation of the prognosis of the ESA SG award, and clarification with regards to which descriptor/s qualified you for The SG.

This will cover all bases in case the ESA85A, LT54, etc do not clarify the above.

This will help you when your next reassessment comes around.

You should address the envelope :

FAO : The DWP Data Controller, at the address of the benefits office on your most recent ESA letter. It may help further if you write : DPA 1998 SAR in front top left corner of the envelope, and your name, address and postcode on the rear top right.

Sending Documents to the DWP or ATOS

There is no charge for this, and once received the DWP have 40 calendar days to comply with the SAR.

Congratulations on The SG award !! :)
