DWP/ATOS not contacting GP for report ESA. was created by Christina
When I reapplied for ESA last September they told me to get a medical report from my GP. She said they'd write to her and that she couldn't write one without being asked by them.
I've been having a very tough time with this process, having been worrying about it since sending off the form. In July my ATOS Medical appointment was cancelled an hour before, due to the morning ones still going on; mine was at 3:15pm.
I included the prepared letter from this site with my ESA form asking them to record my medical (as they had made mistakes in the medical report I received from the last one) but I didn't realise that I had to phone to arrange it when I got the appointment until after the first one was cancelled. I arranged for the equipment to be there for my rescheduled appointment. On arrival they said it wasn't there. After a few minutes they said it was there so they'd get someone to set it up. An hour later I was told they couldn't get it to work so my appointment was aborted. They said I should get a letter from my GP to explain how this was affecting me as I was obviously upset.
So far this has taken 5 weeks. My stress and anxiety level have been increasing over this time. I went to my GP and asked for the letter. She also checked if they'd asked for a medical report - they hadn't. I've sent my GP a description of all the stress this has caused me to update their records.
I'm sorry if I'm rambling or not being coherent - I'm having a hard time knowing what's relevant and my mind keeps wandering.
What I'd like to know is should I write to DWP/ATOS to get them to ask for a GP report? Now I'm at the stage of the medical assessment has it gone beyond that point? Would it be worth writing to them to tell them how badly this recent series of events has affected me? I have the GP letter to send so I need to write a covering note, I suppose.
Thanks for your help.

I am afraid that ATOS are not required to write to your GP for further information and usually do not, if they have not already done, then I believe it very unlikely that they now will, they most often write when they are trying to make a Decision on Scrutiny only (no face to face assessment) and as they have invited you to one, this point in the process has been passed.
The only thing you might still try is to get your GP to write to ATOS that you cannot attend at their offices due to the stress that it is causing you, however, the fact that you have already attended will definitely count against you.
You are entitled to supply additional information up to and including the day of the assessment, remember that to be effective anything that you send must address the ESA descriptors, we recommend that anything you now send is also copied to the DWP office dealing with your claim and is marked for the attention of the Decision Maker.
