IB to ESA - Medical Tomorrow - Help! was created by crystaltips
Ive been on Incapacity Benefit for a few years and I got a letter last summer saying I was being swapped over to ESA and had one of those forms to fill in. I sent it back and mentioned on it that I was about to have an operation and so couldn't attend a medical within the next 8 weeks or so.
I didn't hear anything more until 20th June this year when I got a letter asking me to attend an Atos assessment. I suffer with anxiety and depression and Im so worried about my interview tomorrow. My husband is coming with me but the last "medical" I had was a few years ago and I had my benefit stopped after not receiving enough points. When we looked at the report it bore no resemblence to anything Id said at the medical and he'd also written things that hadn't even been discussed! It was just a work of fiction. I had to wait about 6 months but a tribunal awarded me my IB back.
After that last time Im just convinced it will happen again. Im terrified of telling them I do even basic things around the home in case they jump on anything I say in order to come to the conclusion that I can work. Is there anyone here who has been successful in their assessment who also has mental illness? Id love any tips or advice anyone can give me!

I wish you luck for tomorrow, we do have members who have successfully migrated to ESA due to mental health problems.
This link will help you to understand what to expect and what the questions really mean. You will be asked how you travelled to the assessment centre and assumptions will be made based on your reply. We tell members to act as if the assessment starts when you leave your home and continues until you are back again.
ESA medical, what to expect
Please let us know how you get on.

That link didn't work but I think Ive found the right page. Im finding it really hard to read and take the information in - hence why I can't work. Im worried that if I tell them I do 10 minutes of ironing once in a blue moon that it'll be changed to "does 2 hours of ironing per day". I really don't trust these medicals.

Sorry about that, the link works for me. Perhaps someone else will have a go and see if it works for them.
