For a new claim for PIP where no existing DLA award is in place, the award usually applies from the date of application.

For a "transfer", where a current DLA award is replaced by a new PIP award, then the legislation requires the DLA to remain in payment until four weeks after a Decision on the PIP claim is made after which the new PIP award will be paid, so there will be no back dating of payment, even if the PIP award is higher than the DLA one it replaces.
