Hi there, I am in the process of filling out my DLA form. I am not too sure what to do in regards to my gp. I am scared he will write something and cause me to get refused DLA. Also would I get DLA if I dont attend a pshchiatrist, I use too tho. I am sending my eas medical report which states I qualify for the support group. Ive been following all the guides to the T
They will automatically contact your GP so it might be worth getting a letter from another medical professional. However if you get your GP to write you a letter you will want to look at it first. Sometimes GPs do write silly things like that you cope really well. Either that or that just write what your conditions are which won't help. They need to explain specifically how you qualify so, for example, that you have care needs such as needing supervision to avoid harm. Either way it would be a good idea to mention you are claiming to see if they seem supportive. The only problem would be if they wrote something contradictory in which case you would need evidence to undermine it but this would be at the appeals stage. Not having a psychiatrist shouldn't matter as long as you can explain and evidence how you qualify. Being in the SG for ESA is unlikely to help, although it can't hurt to make them aware of this, but they have different criteria. Any evidence you used in regards to ESA might help, however.
