WRAG? work related? I am in the support. But even if I was, my £7500 from funding would wipe it. So pointless.

I have no faith in citizens Advice, which is my option locally. The council benefit department can't even give me an answer. Raised with MP.

Can't understand why they would say disabled folk can claim HB, yet the £7500 income from funding will be taken into account.

Is there not a disabled premium for HB?

There are premium that will count towards your HB and your ESA, especially if you are in the Support Group, but HB is a means tested benefit so your student income will still be deducted to decide eligibility.

If you can't find an advisor then at least try pushing the numbers through one of the online benefit calculators, Turn2Us.org is usually pretty accurate.

Hi Charlie,

It is worth to stay on ESA. The payments you'll get from student finance usually, cover only winter an spring term. During summer term it is expected that you will work. Means you can't and in this case your income during this period will be zero.

About 230£ of your student income is disregarded, for books and stuff.

You will also get Disabled Student Allowance and if the income is quite low also ALF. Those payments are ignored in terms of income.

ALF might also help you to get through summer term as well.

I suggest to see someone at student union. They are a source of information for students and benefits.

Even if you don't get ESA, it is good to have it as a backup, when you have to intermit your studies due to health reasons. In this case you do not get student finance an you will have to go through the ESA process while poorly.

And - even if you are not entitled to ESA payments, you will still get your pension contributions.

I will get no Housing Benefit .

So shall be closing my ESA the working day before I commence study, or suggest another time frame?

I MIGHT be able to get extra money, awaiting an e-mail telling me if I meet the requirements.

Thanks

It strikes me that you are approaching this from the wrong direction, it is not your responsibility to decide whether you remain eligible for ESA or not, this is the job of the DWP, providing you provide them all of the information required for them to make this Decision.

The worst that can happen is that they say you are no longer entitled to ESA and maybe they will say that you are. :)

How do you suggest I inform them? Would you expect them to assess me? I was not assessed face-face getting put onto ESA from IS.
