Hi tb,

As the starting limit for capital, assets and savings for IR ESA is £6000, there should be no need to report this unless it takes you near to that figure if added to any existing capital, assets and savings that you already have.

As a guideline the DWP state that you should inform them if your capital, assets and saving get to around the £5,500 figure.

Enjoy your compensation !! :)

thanks bro i dont have any savings so this is a welcome bonus i didnt know i was entitled it, i found out in january browsing around on the internet i could claim on behalf of my late husband who died in 2007 thought i was too late to get anything and will now claim the tax back i was a bit wary of claiming tax back in case it flagged it up for DWP so its not classed as income ? as far as the DWP are concerned.
many thanks

Hi tb,

No, a one off payment such as this is not classed as income.

You would only have to report such a payment if was towards the £6000 figure, or was likely to take you over that figure.
