I was under the impression that a new ESA50 was sent out about a month to six weeks before the prognosis date. At least that was the case last year.

Have ATOS started sending them out earlier now?

My prognosis was 1 year Support Group which was dated the 10th April 2013, and the letter I got from JC+ stated I would receive ESA from 29th May. Why the difference in dates?

Now worried I will get ESA50 while I'm away over Xmas, though logically I should expect it towards the end of Jan.

Hi st,

Merry Xmas !!! :)

The prognosis is only a recommendation, and claimants can be reassessed any time after 3 months of an ESA award.

Receiving a new ESA50 2-3 months before the end of a prognosis is the average.

However, it is not written in stone, some claimants receive the ESA50 before this, and recently we have had reports of claimants not yet receiving a new ESA50, when the end of the prognosis period has passed.

Is it possible to phone ATOS while I am away, because if you give them your NI number they can look on their system to see whether a review has been generated. I could then get on with doing a pdf version, which I likely will do in anycase.

Would calling them necessarily alert their systems to send an ESA50 if they hadn't already done so?

Hi st,

ATOS are not supposed to instigate a reassessment (send out a new ESA50) until they receive a re-referral from The DWP WCA Team.

You could contact ATOS by phone or e-mail to see whether there is currently a live re-referral from the DWP.

Whether this would have an adverse effect, is an unknown, it "shouldn't" do.

Contact details for The ATOS WCA Customer Services can be found on their website :
